I am the illustrator for Bold Beasts, an independent publishing company run by Bob Braddock. My friend, the author Rachel Braddock (1945-2019), was at teacher training college with me, and asked me to illustrate these stories (mostly poems), originally written for her grandson. I have an MA in Children’s Book Illustration from the Cambridge School of Art. My main influences are medieval art, cartoons, William Blake and English folk verbal and visual tradition. Before art school, I had an active career in adult education and children’s out-of-school playschemes, which have become elements in my current work. Now I am researching and drawing further books for the series, composing and performing songs. I think of the pages as scenes in a play and the characters moving and changing within the play. Copies are available for sale from The EDGE Café on Mill Road. You can also contact me on both numbers below.
